Somebody told me the old shuffle automatically converted songs into 128kbs AAC while you are adding it to the shuffle, even if they were of a much higher bitrate or saved in another format. I wonder if the new one does the same thing. It would be nice to keep my songs ALAC on my harddisk without wasting too much memory when I add it to the shuffle, where sound quality does not matter much.
Yea it should, I thing that is more of a software option than a hardware one. I only have a shuffle but it seems like that option would work for import on all the ipod models.

Gordon Moore would probably beg to differ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moore's_law). By the time Merom is out the current Yonah processors should become cheap enough to allow a $100-$200 price drop for a Mac mini.
It would work quite well as a secondary Mac in a multi-Mac family too...
B
Yes that is true but by then, that technology is out dated. The reason new technology is expensive is because its...well new

Let Vista's dust settle, let the bitching commence, maybe even a couple highly publicized virus or spyware incidents, then swoop in with Leopard, showing that even after MS had 5 years of development to rip off OSX, Apple is still ahead of them. That would give time for hype, and give Apple the press coverage. Not only is it likely, it makes sense.
It does make sense, and if I was Steve, that's what I'd do.

Only Apple can excite me with a phone. :) We all know it's coming; it's just a matter of... well, when? I still like the name iChat mobile, as someone suggested in an earlier thread. I'm very interested to see how Apple designs it to interact with our Macs. Obviously iTunes support will be present. iSync with Address Book is also a given. What else?

I'm not surprised, they are probably holding off, so that way when they release iWork/iLife it will be to fanfare rather then just a mediocre entry after the grandiose iPhone.
Possibly. But to warrant a special release on its own, that would imply that there should be somewhat major enhancements and improvements to both suites. iWork I can see, if a spreadsheet application is indeed added, however what significant updates would we really see in iLife? I guess time will tell.
I still wonder if certain iLife/iWork functionality/enhancements will have something to do with interfacing with elements of Leopard, thereby dictating a release in tandem. This would alienate non-Leopard users, who then couldn't reap the benefits of the new suites, however would also encourage sales of the new OS for that very reason, as well as perhaps take advantage of some powerful new technologies.

Skunk, how many miles per gallon does your gun get?
He should have driven to a police station, and asked them to remove his wife.
I think driving fast and swerving erratically is a good way to remove a moron from your windshield.

This makes sense. Steve Jobs would definitely want to be there, but he probably can't make it to the entire WWDC keynote.
If this is true, this is a smart PR move on Apple's part.

I think that's a poor example because Konfabulator was already around and Apple essentially just took that idea and made it part of the OS. Desk Accessories which were part of the original Mac, released in 1984, were similar to widgets. So I don't see where revolution comes to mind. They've evolved, but it's not a revolutionary idea.

I'd like to see a sample in Silicon Valley. There's such a large concentration of computer users and this is the leading technical area. When I walk down University Avenue in Palo Alto, I always see people with Apple laptops in coffee shops and other places. I am thinking if more people in Silicon Valley change to Apple branded laptops, then other area's will follow since these are the tech savvy people. I don't think will see much in the financial sector for some time as there's not much software that works on the Mac.

Not everyone can afford to develop something. That doesn't mean their idea is worthless and they shouldn't patent it. OTOH, there are only so many ways of doing certain things and being able to patent "3 finger gestures" is flipping ridiculous, IMO. In fact, I think most software patents are ridiculous in that they just abstract ideas without any specific way to achieve them. Programming should mostly fall under copyright, not patents, IMO. Smart phone layouts patentable? UGH. You might as well just let someone patent a suit and tie.... It's ridiculous anymore. Small businesses generally don't stand a chance under litigation even when they're right because the big guy can drive them out of business with legal fees. The whole system sucks.
I agree
That's why a system without any patents would be a lot better and fairer than it is now.
There shouldn't be such a system, things would be a lot cheaper.
I live in Asia most of the time where copies of many things are available, those people just can not afford those ridiculous 1st world prices.
Especially Songs, software are notorious for being so costly.

It might be interesting to see if games for phones become a profitable revenue stream for game developers since they can skip several of the middle men via downloading games, instead of through traditional retail.
I think that was shown to be the case a long time ago.
