you could not be more wrong.....

if you take guns away from the legitimate and responsible owners, then what does that help? did you really make a difference? no....

and all the criminals will still have there guns.

and all the sudden they have just as much power as the law enforcement, and now they don't have to be afraid that I might have my gun when they rob me. because we don't have our guns....

    Hey! Someone that gets it!

just because a new device is out doesn't mean your old one dosen't work anymore / you suddenly need it..

I'm tired of people asking me if my 3G is still working. My old RAZR is still working too. What's your point?

Panic (http://www.panic.com/) developer Cabel Sasser (http://twitter.com/cabel) noticed a strange bug in the iTunes App Store this evening. As part of the hardware requirements on several new apps, a placeholder name "ix.Mac.MarketingName" has appeared on several apps' iTunes listings.

Let's look at this from the developer's point of view. If it's not an accidental glitch it must be a placeholder for something not yet released. We [developers] use such placeholders/variables in templates all the time and don't put dots at random places. Usually when we put a dot after something it means that we are talking about particular trait or side of the object. E.g: person.age means 'age*of the person'.

In this case ix.mac.marketing is likely to imply:

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble... but I don't believe this is a US phone. My iPhone 3gs has been on t-mobile for almost 2 years now... ...because that's the standard carrier in the Netherlands...

The +1 before the phone number definitely lends to the probability that it's intended for foreign use.

I can send a screenshot of both my and my gf's phones that clearly say: T-Mobile 3G on them... :D

And the N94 part number denoting an entirely separate model?

TheRegister seems to reckon it's not due until 2012:

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/04/12/iphone_delay/

There's been some debate on whether these articles are talking about Apple's fiscal year 2012 which begins in 2011....or the calendar year 2012.

Personally, I tend to think maybe these rumors are right and Apple is shifting the iPhone announcements to the fall moving forward. That would give them more time to focus on software at WWDC each year, with new hardware in the fall, in time for the holiday season.

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8H7 Safari/6533.18.5)

Learn from Google? What has Google developed that's anything close to an OS? And no, Chrome OS doesn't count...it's a giant web browser, with Cloud Apps...

    TROLL

By that same vein, what has Apple ever developed that's anything close to a OS ? And no, Mac OS X, a bunch of components bought/taken from the open source community doesn't count... it's just a Unix distribution with a GUI layer on top.

It's easy to discount anything going with that mentality. The fact is, Chrome OS is as much an undertaking as OS X was. It's more than just a "Web browser" since web browsers cannot be booted and don't provide graphical sub-systems, input management and process scheduling obviously.

(yes, I do realise Mac OS Classic existed).

And to answer your question directly : Android. ;)

Android what a laugh! The OS is Linux which they effectively forked. The SDK is built on a Java work alike, a work a like that has a questionable amount of others people's code in it. On top of that they purchased the company that started out developing the concept of Android.

It is reasonable to question if Android is even an ethical product. I don't think it is thus I steer people away from it. I don't want to discount the intelligence of the people working at Google, but I don't think the management there has any respect for the property of others. Android is just one factor here, google has problems with copyright and the concept of personal property.

Seriously dude, you're in the wrong thread.

This isn't the "What Is Your Wish?" or "Random Thought For The Day" thread.

People are talking about tax returns and yes I spent about everything I made on my computer, I am a full time college student. And half the posts in this thread are about who started it and why they started it so early...

I'd be highly skeptical if Apple will introduce LTE compatable chips even in 2012. Usually Apple takes it's time to implement technologies that all other phone makers in the market have implemented. They focus on ease of use and to the point where you don't even notice the technology (et. al. there latest iPad 2 commercial) They'll probably delay any LTE implementation until 2013.

How do you "notice the 4G technology" on current 4G phone? It just works. Jeez...give me a break here with just canned statements.

EFI is not an emulation of bios.

Correct. EFI and BIOS are different animals. MacBooks and Mac Pros don't include BIOS. Windows requires BIOS (unless Vista has changed back to supporting EFI). Boot Camp EMULATES BIOS on top of EFI.

That was the point. Might hit the "or otherwise emulated" parenthetical in the EULA. Someone will need to talk with a lawyer on that one.

BTW: What Microsoft SAYS about the EULA is pretty much meaningless. The only things that will be held up in court are, in rapidly-descending order of relevance:

    1. The EULA
    2. Official pronouncements declaring intent of EULA (which might go to prove willful deception; I suspect the EULA contains a clause that any external pronouncements can not change or limit the content of the agreement, blah blah blah).
    3. WAY down from the last, well-documented statements from a management-level individual at the company promising that the reading of the EULA is incorrect.

So, if a straight reading of the EULA might be interpreted to mean it can not be run on a virtual machine or under emulation of any sort, then thats the truth, no matter how much the Borg doth protest.

It's 'improper' because it is not advantageous for Apple. I wonder if these same posters raised red flags when it was reported that Apple had boxed out the competition by 'pre-buying' touch panels for the next two years from the major manufacturers? Or when they did the same thing a few years ago (buying huge yields at very favorable prices) with flash memory?

    Lethal

That may be, but could the new prices also be from a recent deal between Amazon and the content providers? Can't agreements be changed after a specified time? Also, what Amazon is selling is not the same as what Apple sells. The music is the same, but the format and delivery options are different; with Apple it is in AAC that can be converted to MP3, whereas Amazon sells just the MP3.

I guessing you been living under a rock.. Because my Truck CD Player plays AAC, PS3, Xbox360, PSP, DSi, 3DS, my wife and daughter's Android phone all play AAC.. The list can go on... Google is your friend....

notices something. Most of those devices are a lot newer. Like I said my car from 2004 can play MP3 but not AAC files. Things from back then it was iffy at best if it it could play AAC.

Mp3 plays on everything. AAC does not. MP3 is supported on older devices. AAC is not.
AAC is just not as widely support as MP3 end of story.

Top it off Mp3 is smaller at the same bit rate

At a certain point you really are not gaining anything. Amazon VBR is a great way to give great quality sound for a smaller file size.

What situation is there that you would want to run the same OS on the same box, one natively installed and one in virtualization?
One person mentioned wanting simultaneous BootCamp and Parallels installations.

It's also useful in a tech-support/QA environment. A lot of corporations have a standard software environment that all employees must use. Whenever this environment changes, the changes must be tested. It can be very convenient to create and test these new environments from within VMs. This way you can blow away mistakes and problem-installs by simply deleting a file, instead of having to reformat an entire hard drive.

If your company has to support multiple platforms (e.g. NT4, Win2K, XP, etc.), it can be a huge cost savings for your support staff to be able to simultaneously run all of the platforms via VMs on a single computer.

But both of these uses are the kinds of things that really should justify a business license. The real question here is if someone running the Business edition as the native OS can also run the Home edition in a VM - so QA staff can support users running the home edition without needing a separate computer dedicated for the purpose.

Ugh, I finally caught up with the latest firmware version while jailbroken last week, and then this is released. I wouldn't have a problem with it if I didn't suffer from the Facetime glitchiness that I'm now experiencing on 4.3.1.

I'm an iOS dev, and this showed up on my pages. I have no idea what it means, or what this device is, I have not made an update to support a new device, and I doubt other devs have either.

Devs usually never get pre-release access to a new device.
