Apples New WiMax service, covering the entire world, it will work with the iPhone 2 and all later laptops but Apple will sell an external modem plugging into the previous MBPs ExpressCard/34. The WiMax service has VOIP, the previous iPhone will still be being sold and will so until their contract runs out with each carrier. I got told from a friend of a friend of a girl friends mothers ex friend who knew this guy who says he worked in an Apple store and was told by his manager who was told by Steve who came up with the whole thing.

Quite greedy strategy. Adobe's prices are so expensive, that you would expect a longer support for your purchase than one year (especially in Dreamweaver and Flash, because they are used in an areas where technology goes forward all the time). And anyway, probably all mid-cycle updates will be so minor that most users won't buy them - Adobe doesn't get money, they just piss off customers with these expensive service pack updates.

Amazing, how many half-wits are out there!

There is a larger issue in Hewitt's statement, which seems to totally go over some people's heads.

And to the "Facebook sucks" crowd: may be so, but there are a lot more Facebook users, than iPhone users. So it's still important.

And really, over the last few years, my otherwise beloved Apple has turned into the George W. Bush of PC companies. Look at their newly found moral stance, regarding applications. Or their strong-arm tactics. Or the picking of wars not likely to be in their own interest - like the ones with Google, and Adobe.

Or, the fact, that the truly religious (and uninformed), blindly follow, no matter where.

But once 4G is implemented, will Verizon's internet and downloading be the same or faster speed-wise than AT&T?

I know currently AT&T is faster...

Wal-Mart is unethical in this. iTunes is the #1 music download site by 65,987,234 light years, but does Apple say, "Your music cannot be sold at Wal-Mart or Best Buy if it is going to be sold here."? This is piss poor management. I would want my vendors to WANT to do business with me because MY STORE offers a superior experience for the customer, not because I force them to. Wal-Mart needs to do 3 things.
    1) Drop this now.
    2) Clean the f#$%king floor.
    3) Demand that all female employees shave their mustaches.

    Rant complete.

Within months Logic Pro 8 came out and they simplified the GUI to be like GarageBand (and oh how all the "Pros" did moan...but only for awhile) and cut the price from $999 to $499. I jumped on it and never looked back.

Logic is the perfect comparison. Audio guys had the exact same reaction when Logic 8 and 9 first appeared - it seemed to look more like GB so they assumed it was a toy with features stripped out. In fact, it removed nothing and added quite a few features valuable to pros (and in later versions fixed a LOT of bugs). What's the old clich about judging a book by its cover?

If it's shipping in June, even June 30, how can it not be near final form? I mean when a developer tells me s/w is "nowhere near final form" I'm thinking early beta at best. But 2.5 months from release (assume June 30) shouldn't it be in the bug testing phases and everything else locked up?

Seeing as how it is referencing the version that was showed which was shown in February I can see how that build would be nowhere near the final form. It is a build that is at least two months old and probably a more stable/incomplete build so that it wouldn't crash constantly during the demo. I can completely see how a lot of features would be missing from the demo version.

Drinking from the Apple koolaid again, huh?

Perhaps if you pulled your head out of SJ's bum long enough to look around, you'd notice the vast majority of iPhone users are being punished in Apple's attempt to mold the internet in it's own image.

A large number of websites use flash in their design, and are completely inaccessible without flash support. Inefficient or not, that's fact, and we're the losers here.

Sorry, just stating facts. Flash is a horribly inferior technology and has crippled the web from a much greater potential. I honestly have not missed it at all on my iPhone and I block it with ClickToFlash on my Macs. I would GLADLY forgo Flash if Apple can kill it forever. Web developers need to use approved open standards and stop using Flash as a crutch. And if by Apple's own image, you mean far superior open standards that are approved by the W3C, then yes!

Why can't I use the alternate views when I'm just playing the music off of my iPod? I never ever use the library because my iPod is always plugged in (and usually I just drag stuff from Finder into my iPod, cutting out the middleman of the Library). What a disappointment!
It's still there. Just click the little triangle next to the connected iPod and you can see all of your songs, videos and everything (which is now broken up into categories.

Mark album and get info... ;)
    re: gapless settings

Thanks! I'm still going through all of the screens and options... a lot of cool new changes.

I just found NIN "THE FRAGILE" album and tried that out and it's gapless, but if I select the album and look at the gapless setting, it's set to NO. But when it plays back, it works like it should.

I'll have to play with the options on some of these albums to see how the setting affects the songs.

imagine let's say that wal mat due to this apple deal with all studios will make a statemnet saying we lost 10% or our revenues so we will lay off 10% of our employess to cover for the losses.!!

now what do you do in this case?
it's not a free world after all....

Wal*Mart losing 10% of their revenue would still leave them a VERY profitable company... and firing that many employees would probably cause them to close some stores... which would result in further loss of profit.

If Wal*Mart lost 10% of their revenue by movie purchases alone, they would have to concentrate harder on other things.

    Something else confuses me though...

Wal*Mart caters to the lower income families... who likely don't have high-speed internet and are, thus, EXTREMELY unlikely to purchace movies from the iTS, lest they want to be downloading for 3 days straight. Those people will go to the local Wal*Mart and buy the same movie from the $5.50 bargain bin. Sleazy customers are happy; Wal*Mart is happy. What do they have to be complaining about?

Man, I love that bin. I've found so many awesome movies in there.......... like Total Recall. Okay, so maybe not THAT awesome.

That $1199 iMac has lots of other wonderful features including a screen, but if you think it is anywhere close to the performance of a i7-2600 based PC (that go for $750 from HP/Dell) then you are delusional. To get something from Apple with an equivalent processor you are looking at a $2199 iMac or a $2499 Mac Pro. Doesn't matter that in the long term the Mac could be a better value, some people can't justify that huge price difference or paying additional for features they don't need or want or cannot afford to.

Again Macs are a premium product and because of that Apple will hit a ceiling of those who can afford or justify buying their products.

I'll not take being called "delusional" to be an insult, I'll take it as involuntary humor on your side. Someone made up a wonderful term "specturbators". That's the people the $750 PC appeals to. Reality is that the iMac will get the job done, with plenty of speed, beautiful, and reliable, much better than the $750 PC. For jobs that it can't get done, sorry mate, there is a reason why each processor in the Mac Pro alone costs a lot more than the whole $750 PC.

So that's how Dell has been staying a float by selling you a 15" model every year. :p

That's why Dell sells three times as many PCs. Because people have to buy three PCs instead of one Mac :-) (But actually, they only sell slightly more than twice as many in the USA anymore. So there are actually more Mac buyers than Dell buyers).

It would be cool if you could buy comics this way as well. Maybe when you buy a physical comic, it could give you a code to enter at the iTMS (iTunes Media Store) to download a CBR version of it.

Right now, you can download all sorts of comics on BitTorrent as CBR or PDF format, and Marvel (www.marvel.com) has a pretty cool online (Flash-based, I think) comic reader from their website.

I'd love to be able to pony up some amount of money and have, say, the entire run of X-Men at my disposal for reading. And controlling the DRM on a comic would be easier than that of music, or even text.

Yes, it would be rare for two people who hardly know each other to go start sticking icky things into icky parts of each other's bodies  :D

If they both need a Zune to share the music i'm sure both have there own earbuds, the girl or boy can use there own earbuds so there's no body fluids being shared and it works between an iPod and a Zune and all the rest. Wifi sharing is useless.

If I could replace my iPod classic with a 120GB iPod Touch I would do it in a heartbeat. To me the only think the classic has on the touch is storage size. In every other way the Touch is much better.

Not everyone likes the touchscreens. I would buy a 200GB classic tomorrow. Not everyone wants iOS and apps and games and all that crap on an MP4 player. i know i don't. the iPod touch should go. they already have an iPhone, i want to listen to music with the occasional video on the bus. and with physical buttons i can change the song with the thing in my pocket. I like the UI and the clickwheel. call me old if you like but im 17.

Switched to macs back in 2001 and while I love the OS I have had a continuous stream of hardware problems with all apple products I have bought:

iBook G3: logic board died and replaced 3 times

iMac G5: CPU got so hot the machine almost melted! So far I have had the logic board replaced 3 times.

MacBook: Random shutdown syndrome, faulty mouse and track pad, palm rest discoloration. Currently in for repair again!

iPod: hard disk and battery both died

EDIT: and don't get me started about the abomination that is the so called mighty mouse. The thing barely lasted a week!

Apple have really got to get there quality control sorted out. So what if the OS is great if the continual hardware faults mean you can't actually use the damn thing!

    One cheesed off mac user.

Obviously companies build outside of the U.S. because it doesn't make financial sense to do so. U.S. labor is expensive in comparison to developing nations. Why is that so hard to understand?

Whoever said that was hard to understand? Not me!

This is a big problem (and has been for 30+ years)...that everything we buy in the USA is made somewhere else...USA no longer manufactures except for our junky USA cars.

Sure...at some point when this all started decades ago, it WAS cheaper to build certain things outside the US...but then everyone got on the bandwagon and now it's the norm. (Thanks politicians!)

The "it's cheaper to build outside the US!" is a bogus argument and has become an evil of our own doing.

If it costs X to build in the US, please don't tell me it costs 1/10th of X to build, import, pay taxes, blah blah blah, to get it back into your company's hands.

We can all agree that some things, yes, are easier and/or cheaper to build outside the US for a variety of reasons. Our USA system needs some serious overhauls to get stuff to be built back in the US other than screws and toilet paper.

IMHO, the MacBook Pros won't come out until after the iPad has been shipped. As much as we'd like to think that Apple would take a "ship them both, they are in different market segments" approach the fact remains that it would compete, to a certain extent, for consumer dollars and Apple isn't going to dilute iPad sales like that.

My wife said no too and this even includes my wish for one for my upcoming bday to get one.

    Your wife said 'no'?

You know, this is a question that I've been wanting to ask for a long time, and this is not directed only at you, but to all responses similar to yours I've seen on such topics. It's an honest question I have, because it just blows my mind:

What the hell kind of relationship do you people have with your spouses?? I mean, seriously??! You need their explicit PERMISSION to buy something you want, with your money, and it gets to their point of people BEGGING their wives to let them buy something, only to be turned down?! How the hell do you get yourself into this kind of dynamic? The only plausible reason that a wife may be against it is if you guys are so short on cash, that $500 will break the account and drive you into poverty? And if this is the case, then you people should have a bit more responsibility than to beg your wives to let you buy something that you clearly can't afford. If you CAN afford it, and it is your $$, then why the hell do you even need to ask your wife in the 1st place, and what right does she have to refuse you? Do your wives make all the money? An iPad isn't a car or a house that needs to be a consensual and debated purchase. Your wife shouldn't have the ability (nor the desire) to stop you from buying one.

This is honestly something that Id like an answer to. Some of you seem to have a 'child/parent' relationship, instead of husband/wife. If she's the breadwinner of the house, and you mooch of her, fine I'd understand. But if you bring in the $$? Sounds like a disturbing and cold relationship. Why does she get to dominate you and dictate your decisions, void of any debate or discussion?

Doesn't "something in the air" usually refer to love? So it could mean anything, which is why its showing ;).

Of course as a technological thing, it probably refers to wireless, or possibly something "light".

It's a cross between Love and itunes university. Yes, it's.....

    iLove U!
