I am having trouble activating 3G in my iPad with used Sim. How do I get AT&T to reset this so I can activate 3G service in my name?

can't you just get a fresh MicroSIM from AT&T?
shouldn't they be happy to provide you with a Sim if you subscribe to an iPad data plan?

The apple doesn't quite register as a zero. It ended up looking to me like 1 million forum posts. Maybe if the 1 and the apple were in the same frame....

agreed but its prob to late now ;)

If you have your HD set up this way, can you access it from anywhere or just on your home network? I'm wanting to get all my music and movies set up this way so that I can free up space on my mbp, but I don't want to lug around a portable HD everywhere I go

It is possible via Mobile Me and maybe other services, but streaming movies from your home to your MBP while on the road might be slow depending on your internet connection and how much you pay per MB/GB.
A mobile 2.5" HDD might be cheaper in the long run and doesn't take up much space and does not wear more than 200g.

    Hey all,

I'm currently working on an iWeb website for my wedding. We chose the "Elegant" template (the one where you have different coloured headers for different page templates).

Since our colours are some kind of retro brown and pink, I would like to have the pink header on every page (that includes the top header and the pic behind the navigation menu). However, iweb forces me to use a certain coloured header based on a new page. Since I didn't want to mess with the iweb interface, I decided to publish my website on a folder on my harddrive, overwrite the coloured hearders files with the pink version, using the same name (as a consequence, I have a pink header named "xxxxx_yellow_top.png" and "xxxxxx_yellow_bottom.png for example). Thus, the website displays the right colour on every page. I then use a FTP app to publish it on the internet.

When I update the content of a page then publish the website on my harddrive again, it keeps the header files I modified, so that works very well. However, on some updates (I guess when I make a change to the navigation menu), iWeb overwrites the modified header file and I have to do the same operation all over again.

Is there anyway for me to have that pink header on every page of my website, without having to do some trickery ?

I have two other quick questions :
    - I'd like the blog page to be my main page on the website (index.htm), however, when I do that, the navigation menu is empty even though I have other pages on my website. It looks like I must have a "welcome" page before I can have a blog page on the site. Am I missing something ? Can't I have the blog page to be my first page on the website, and correctly displaying the navigation menu ?

    - on the blog page, I checked the box to have the search feature enabled. It correctly displays it on the iweb interface, but when I publish my website, the search box is not there. What am I doing wrong ?

This is my first time using iWeb, and I have to say that even though it offers a lot of great tools to have a nice website up very quickly, it's a nightmare to customize.

Should I maybe create the general look and feel of the website on iweb, then edit it on dreamweaver ?

Thanks for your help, my future wife is putting a lot of pressure on me to get this thing ready ASAP :p

Dude, don't get the MacMice. It's a crappy $10 mouse repackaged and sold for 5 times the cost.

I've heard this repeated a lot, but have seen no evidence. I have seen a lot of people with axes to grind point to clearly different mice and claim that they're identical to the macmice.

While I've certainly owned and used better mice than the macmice product, it's the only multibutton mouse my wife was willing to tolerate (since it looks essentially identical to the standard apple lozenge). She's design-picky that way and would never accept a Logitech anything just based on its appearance (even though it's a more functional mouse).

It works, anyhow. I have the USB version and have had no problems with it. I'd prefer a logitech MX1000, sure, but keeping the wife happy is more important.

I can't remember if it's JUST iTunes that's affected by this but the problem you're experiencing is due to the fact that instead of the program just reading one cd, and continuing track to track, it's having to read several files. It gets to the end of track 1, and then has to find and load up the track 2 mp3 file. Yes some kind of buffer would seem to be in order.

The ways to get around this have already been mentioned but for the record:

    1. Cross-fade (no good for iPod users)
    2. Rip the cd, or the tracks that are mixed together, into one mp3/aac (whatever) file. When you insert the cd, highlight the tracks you want joined, then go to advanced->join CD tracks. I do this with some cd's, such as Green Day's American Idiot, and Muse's last album... but most of the time I just put up with it!!

    Hope this helps :)

Everyone goes on about how much fun Wii Sports is, but the mention of an Olympics game with Mario and Sonic doesnt seem to be impressing you lot. Why not? Just think of it as Wii Sports 2, with better graphics, shed loads more sports, loads of game modes. No one interested?

Here is a good option for a two-for-one. Get a f/1.8 50 mm (~120$) for low light work and a reverser ring (~10 - 15$) to mount the 50 mm in reverse for macro work.

Reverse macro with a lens is not the best option, if you want a substantial amount of DoF, which would be required in the case of OP with his painted figures. Reverse macro is sharp at exactly one distance, the distance from the back lens element to the sensor when the lens is mounted normally and this distance doesn't change with focusing ... and DoF really is razor sharp.

I would normally agree with the Ati X850XT. I have both that and the 6800 Ultra. The 850 is a bit quieter, but doesn't seem to perform any better in games based on my tests. I stick with the 6800 Ultra because it's performance in Motion beats the pants off the X850. Yeah, it's a bit louder and takes up 2 slots, but I don't use more than two slots myself (I don't generally think that because a powerful card takes up 2 slots is a reason to avoid it. Many people don't use all the slots), and the noise doesn't bother me, but it's performance is noticeably better than the X850 in a program I use constantly.

I was wondering whether anyone else from MR was going! I started a Northbrook thread a few days ago but never heard from anyone. lol

I will be going with a couple of my friends...we're hoping that we'll get there around 6:00 or so, but we'll see how it pans out. After we get our phones, we're going up to Great America if the weather's all right. :)

    Hi All,

Well... I have just bought my first Apple products. It's one of the new iMac units - hope to see the delivery during next week.

I have been an avid programmer using the Windows environment, Visual Studio C#. I like to develop applications for the OS I am working on.

So, seeing that I will be in a new OS and would like to write apps for iMac/iPod what is available for the iMac, knowing that I am fluent with C# ?

    Cheers
    Pete

It was really only a matter of time. The technology still has a few kinks to work out, but the business model is sound and successful.

I bought a TV show, just to test the user experience. As a video professional, I was somewhat dissapointed with the quality of the image, but I was using an older, slower G4. Perhaps quicktime was optimized to drop frames in order to keep running in real time?

I was hoping it would be the same H.264 compression that Apple uses for Quicktime Movie Trailers. Those downloads (streams?) look outstanding!

Eventually, I'm sure that video quality and user experience will be outstanding. After all, the first automobile manufactured was not a Ferrari Enzo.

From the help file on your Mac...

'In the Finder, choose Connect To Server from the Go menu. Connect to the server, log in, and select the volume.

Open System Preferences and click Login Items. Click Add and locate the server in the Recent Servers folder in your home Library folder.

Each time you log in to Mac OS X, the login dialog appears for you to connect to the server.'
